Gambit Insurance Solutions - Case Study
Our Client’s Brief
Gambit Insurance Solutions is a start-up general insurance broker with expertise in several sectors and plans to bring slick digital solutions to each. Founder Ajay Mistry’s passion and expertise in the self-employed creative sector made this a natural starting point for building their online capability.
Having created their brand Mode Insurance to target a broad spectrum of trades in this market, and with the in-house digital marketing expertise to drive web traffic, they needed:
An efficient way to convert clicks on their site into an insurance quotation.
Then convert those quotations into live policies via a fully compliant sales process.
As a high-volume market with relatively low premiums, Gambit also needed:
An efficient way to administer their new clients’ business.
For the entrepreneurial team in a start-up business, speed to market was vital: time offline costs money!
The Durell Software Solution
Durell built a Mode Insurance Solutions branded quote and buy solution which caters for either one-off short-term cover or standard annual cover.
The solution incorporates a dynamic question set and rating built in our no-code rating engine, providing a simple and intuitive quote process for customers and facilitating tailored quotations covering Public and Employers Liability, Professional Indemnity and Equipment Insurance for a huge range of creative trades.
The platform captures quote data, providing customers with a reference and the ability to return to convert the quotation into a sale at later date. Premiums can be paid through either a one-off payment or via instalments using Premium Credit. On binding cover, the client receives their document pack via email and login details to a Mode branded customer portal.
The platform facilitates full cycle trading, allowing clients to access their documents online and ‘self serve’ MTAs in the customer portal. It also provides an efficient process to automatically issue and bind renewals.
In their Admin Dashboard the Gambit team have live MI and drag-and-drop reporting that can access all the risk fields as well as a comprehensive set of system fields such as references, premium and date fields. They can pull bordereau reports as well as any ad-hoc reporting to slice-and-dice quote and policy data as required.
The entire build from initial scoping through development and testing to launch of the live quote and buy facility took just 2 months.

AIC - Case Study
Collaboration between Durell and broker AIC delivers a new Property Owners product for distribution via Quote Portal
AIC is a well-established commercial lines focussed general insurance broker with a team of 12 staff, which has used the Durell Software broker Policy Administration System (PAS) for over 20 years. The close relationship between AIC and Durell meant that Chris Metcalfe, AIC’s Managing Director was one of the first brokers to collaborate with Durell in our plans to build Quote Portal.
Durell Quote Portal
Quote Portal is a quoting hub for open market general insurance products which provides a simple efficient way to quote, bind, administer and renew a range of general insurance products. The portal integrates with Durell’s broker PAS back office so that data from policies traded is automatically populated into the system.
A panel of MGAs and insurers is being developed in Quote Portal for each main class of business. Each product class will use a single Polaris standard e-trade underwriting question set so that brokers can receive a range of quotes without the need to re-key underwriting data into various carrier’s extranets. In addition, a range of niche and specialist products will be made available, so that Quote Portal provides brokers with a one stop shop for business placement.

Partnership Delivers Value
Having been involved from the start of this project, and given the fantastic distribution opportunity provided by the Durell and Movo Partnership broker bases, AIC were able to successfully apply for Lloyds Coverholder status approved by Axis, who have granted them a binder to wholesale Property Owners insurance. AIC’s Property Owners product will be one of the first to launch on Quote Portal.

Beauty Insured - Case Study
Our Client’s Brief
Beauty Insured is a division of broker Movo Glamorgan which provides package insurance for hair, beauty and nail salons and medical malpractice for aesthetic and cosmetic practitioners, covering over 50 different procedures.
Many of these practitioners search on line to buy insurance out of business hours, creating a great opportunity for a broker which is able to provide an online process to buy cover without reference to an insurance agent. A high proportion of searches are also carried out on a mobile device, so a simple and intuitive customer journey is also essential to success in this market.
Recognising this opportunity, Laura Sealey, founder of Beauty Insured approached Durell to build an online quote and buy solution for aesthetic and cosmetic practitioners.
Digitalising new business with Durell has transformed performance
Durell’s solution has transformed new business generation performance. In 8 months since launch Beauty Insured has already written over 1,446 policies generating almost £1 million in premiums. In April 2024 Beauty Insured won the Movo Partnership Best Scheme broker award recognising their outstanding performance.
The Durell platform has also helped the team manage the high volume of business much more efficiently. With significant volumes of business being placed without the need for a phone call, the Beauty Insured team can focus on the more complex cases which are referred and on providing an outstanding service to their clients.
Durell’s back office functionality also provides an efficient business process enabling Laura to allocate new business enquiries and MTAs to specific team members and track outstanding work through to completion, whilst at the same time and creating a comprehensive and compliant audit trail.
