Templates,
New
To create a new template starting from the
Durell Main Menu…
- Click “People”
- Click the green “W” button on the toolbar (top right of the screen)
- Click “New doc” button
- Select “Letter” from the “Template” drop-down, as shown below

- Ensure the “Data field set” drop-down is set to “Standard”
- Ensure the “Include client policy details” tick-box is clear
- Click and thereby clear the tick-box “Tick for normal document,
clear to create new template”
- Click “OK”

This should load Word, where you can edit the
Letter template to create a new version, as follows…
- The address will appear as a series of data fields, such as
<<Address1_Line1>>
- To see what the address will look like, click Word’s
“<<ABC>>” button
- To change the margins, click “File / Page Set-up” and change as
required
- To change the font, click “Edit / Select all”, then “Format /
Font”, etc
- To add text, click where you wish to start and then start typing
- To add a date that sets itself automatically see “Templates, Adding A Date”
- To add extra Durell data fields see “Templates,
Inserting a Durell Data Field”

When you have finished your new template, save
it as follows…
- Ensure all data fields appear like <<Address1_Line1>>
by clicking <<ABC>>> button
- Click “File”
- Click “Save”
- Select “Document Template” from the “Save as type” drop-down
(bottom left), then…
- Select your data drive (typically F:) from the “Save in” drop-down
(top left), then…
- Double-click your Durell data folder (typically called Imw-Data),
then…
- Double-click your Durell Template folder (always called Template),
then…
- Enter the name of your new template in the “File name” field (e.g.
“New services”), then…
- Click the “Save” button
- Click “File”
- Click “Exit”
- Click “No” in response to prompt to link the new template to a
Durell client
Now to use the template
for the first time…
- Click the green “W” button on the toolbar (top right of the screen)
- Click “New doc” button
- Select the template (e.g. “New services”) via the Template “Select”
button
- Ensure the “Data field set” drop-down is set to “Standard”
- Ensure there is a tick in tick-box “Tick for normal document, clear
to create new template”
- Click “OK”, which will load Word with your letter
