Templates, Inserting A Formula
Durell may contain certain fields, such as the percentage of commission due to an introducer, but sometimes lacks the actual total. In such a situation you can get Word to calculate the total for you. In order to do so you’ll need to take the following four steps (which are explained in detail afterwards)…
1. Create a table, like that shown below, which may contain both data fields and text….

2. Give names (or
“bookmarks”) to the cells containing the data fields, so Word knows what you’re
referring to, as shown below…

3. Enter the formula (e.g. =
TotalCommission / 100 * Percent), like that below…

4. Finally you may wish to
make the table’s outline invisible, so the whole lot can appear as part of a
sentence.
To do the above in Word, starting from an existing template in Durell….
- Click “Table / Insert / Table” and select the number of columns and rows, as shown below…
- Enter the text, as required (e.g. “Your commission =” in the first cell, and “% of” in the fourth one…

- Click on the third cell, then click Word’s “Insert merge field” button and select the appropriate field (e.g. <<PolComm_Rate5>>)
- Click on the fifth cell, then click Word’s “Insert merge field” button and select the appropriate field (e.g. <<PolDets_CommissionPnd>>)

- Click on the third cell, then click on “Insert / Bookmark”, type in a name for the cell (e.g. “Percent”) and click the “Add” button
- Click on the fifth cell, then click on “Insert / Bookmark”, type in a name for that cell (e.g. “TotalCommission”) and click the “Add” button
- Click on the second cell, then click “Table / Formula” and enter the formula, as shown below, using the “bookmarked” cell names
- Select a suitable “Number format” (e.g. 0.00)
- Click “OK”

- Finally to hide the table’s lines, click anywhere on the table, then click “Format / Borders and Shading”, select “None” and click “OK”
