On-line Investment Updates, Set-up

The Durell system can revalue certain investment and pension fund details on-line, which requires an always-on broadband connection.

If you have a recent copy of Windows (e.g. Windows Vista or Windows 7) you can ignore this section and go straight to “Setup, On-line contract enquiry”.

Windows Update

Otherwise you must ensure you’ve loaded the “.NET Framework”, which is available as a free download from Microsoft via their “Windows Update” service (n.b. included with every copy of Microsoft Windows). When running this update make sure you select the “Custom Install”, as shown below, because the standard “Express Install” only includes high priority security fixes, not additional programs such as the .NET Framework.

After selecting “Customer Install” also make sure that you click “Select optional software updates”, as shown below, or again you’ll just be offered the high priority security fixes. The only software update you need to tick is the “Microsoft .NET Framework version x.x” one, after which you should click the option to “Install updates”.

Then in order to use the services of a particular insurer you must enter your password or certificate details, as described in “Setup, On-line contract enquiry”.
