General, Set-up Default Policy Data

If your brokerage deals with products where many of the policy questions always have the same answer, then it may save time to setup “default” policies (or standard sets of answers) for each one.

Default policies can be created for a specific plan name (e.g. an Allianz Cornhill, Private Motor, Horizon plan), or at the product level for a given insurer (e.g. Allianz Cornhill, Private Motor), or generically at the product level (e.g. any Private Motor policy).

To create a default policy, starting from Durell’s Main Menu...

·         Click the “Policies” button

·         Click the “Signpost” button

·         Select “Policies / Defaults / Create a default”

·         Create a new default starting with either blank data or that of the currently highlighted policy, as shown below...

Fill-in the policy with your standard answers, leaving the non-standard ones blank, then save and exit as usual. You’ll return to the screen below that will list all the defaults you’ve created so far. The example below shows a Building & Contents default for all insurers with a more specific one just for Aviva. There is also one exclusively for the HomecallPlus Home Emergency plan called “HC10 – Boiler Maintenance”. Click the “Exit Door” button to leave and return to the normal Policies screen.

To access this screen subsequently, starting from Durell’s Main Menu...

·         Click the “Policies” button

·         Click the “Signpost” button

·         Select “Policies / Defaults / Display existing defaults”

From there you can add, edit or delete your default policies, just like normal ones.

Using Policy Defaults

To use your policy defaults, simply start a policy as normal, then on the “New Record” pop-up below, tick the box to “Use default values” at the bottom left, then click the “>” button next to it..

This will cause a pop-up to appear for the relevant product types, as shown below. Simply highlight the one you wish to use, click “OK”, then proceed with the policy as usual.
