You may
design your own factfind by using a Microsoft Word template. An example
template is included with all Durell systems, called “Factfind, Default”. To
use this, starting from the Durell Main Menu…

Before
proceeding with the design of your own templates it is essential that you
understand how to select factfind topics into which the data can be entered. To
this end please refer to the sections…

The next
step is to understand how to create and modify Microsoft Word templates, and in
particular how to add data fields via Durell’s “Data Field Sets”. To this end
please refer to the sections…

Templates,
Increasing Durell Data Fields
Once you
have understood how to select the factfind topics, how to enter the factfind
data, and how to generally create and modify templates, then you may design
your own preferred layouts, possibly using the “Factfind, Default” template, described
above, as basis for your own.
Instead of
picking individual data fields you can instead use the top “>I”
button, shown below, to load all of the fields in a given table (e.g. all 253
fields from the “Factfind – Standard 1” table in one go). However also be aware
of the limitations of Word, discussed below.

The
different versions of Microsoft Word (e.g. Word 97, Word 2000, etc) will allow
you to pass more or less data fields. Although the Durell system allows a
maximum of 2,000 field names per set, you will probably find your copy of Word
will crash if you exceed around 850 or so. Also the more fields you pass to
Word the longer it will take to start. Hence if your desired factfind design
has a large number of data fields then you may find that you’ll have to split
it into two or more templates.
All the
factfind data field names are given in the section of this manual called “Fact
Find Field Names”. This shows each topic with the relevant field names, for
